How much can I claim if I need to cancel my trip?
The most you can claim in total for trip cancellation is £5,000 per trip for all beneficiaries. In other words, if covered family members are part of the claim you submit, the most you can claim in total remains £5,000.
Is there a part of the claim I have to pay myself?
Yes, there is an excess of £50 per trip.
What types of expenses may be covered under cancellation cover?
You may be covered for the following costs:
- Unused, prepaid travel and accommodation expenses that you can't recover.
- Prepaid excursions, tours, or activities at your destination that you can't use.
- Reasonable additional travel expenses.
What evidence do I need to provide for a cancellation claim?
You'll need to provide:
- Original cancellation invoice(s) showing all charges and any refunds given.
- Evidence of your attempts to rearrange or recover costs.
- For trip abandonment after 24 hours' delay, a written report from the carrier confirming the delay length and reason.
- For other covered circumstances, we'll explain what documents you need when you make a claim.
What reasons for cancelling my trip may be covered?
You may typically qualify for compensation if you need to cancel your trip due to:
- You, a close relative*, your travel companion, or someone you're staying with becoming ill, injured, suffering pregnancy complications, or dying.
- Travel advisories issued by the FCDO against travel to your destination if, and only if, issued after booking but within 21 days of departure.
- Being placed in mandatory personal quarantine.
- Being called for jury service or as a witness in court.
- Serious damage to your home requiring you to remain there.
- Being made redundant after 2+ years of permanent employment.
- Authorized leave cancellation if you're in the Armed Forces, Police, Fire, Nursing, Ambulance Services, or a Government Department.
- Your outward journey being delayed for more than 24 hours due to strike, bad weather, or mechanical breakdown.

Is cancellation due to pre-existing medical conditions covered?
No, the policy does not typically cover any claims arising directly or indirectly from pre-existing medical conditions that were known before you became a valid plan holder or before booking your trip.
What are possible reasons for cancelling my trip that are typically not covered?
You will typically not be covered if you cancel your trip due to:
- A cancellation by your service provider (in other words, cover only applies if you have made the cancellation yourself).
- Strikes or industrial actions publicly declared before booking.
- Cancellation due to pandemic-related advice from FCDO.
