This part of the insurance may help if someone steals your personal things during a mugging while you are on a trip.
Important information:
- The cover is only valid outside the UK
- If your items are stolen in other circumstances than a mugging, the baggage cover may apply instead
- Contact Zurich Assist if you need urgent assistance after the mugging
- Always fill in the in-app or online claim form as soon as possible if you've been mugged.
What do you consider mugging?

How much can I claim for personal possessions mugging?
The most you can claim in total for personal possessions mugging is £1,000.
How much are my personal things worth?
We use something called their replacement value:
- If the item was less than a year old, you may get back what you originally paid for it.
- If it was between one and two years old, you may get back 75% of what you paid.
- For each year older than that (up to 5 years old), the amount you may get back goes down by another 10% of the original price.
- You might get back at least 20% of the original price, unless the item is over 5 years old, in which case it is not covered.
What do I need to do if my personal possessions are stolen during a mugging?
You need to do the following:
- Report it to the local police within 24 hours of it happening and get a police report.
- Contact Zurich Assist as soon as possible and fill in a claim form within 72 hours of the mugging.
- Provide the original receipt or proof that you owned the stolen items.
What if my stolen things are found later?
If your stolen things are found after we've paid your claim, you must pay back the money we gave you.
What if my stolen things are found damaged and can be fixed?
If your stolen things are damaged but can be repaired for a reasonable cost, we will only pay for the repair cost.
Is there a part of the claim I have to pay myself?
Yes, there is an excess of £50 per claim for personal possessions mugging.
