This part of the insurance may provide compensation if your outward journey, onward journey, or return journey to the UK is delayed for more than 4 hours from the scheduled departure time.
Important information:
- You must have attempted to check in for your journey.
- You must have received confirmation of the delay details from the carrier.
- Actual costs of rebooking are not covered, you would only be compensated instead.
- Always fill in the in-app or online claim form as soon as possible.
Am I covered for travel between different destinations on my trip?
Yes, you may be covered. The policy defines a trip as a holiday or journey which begins when you leave your home and ends when you return. Therefore, travel between different locations as part of that continuous, pre-booked round trip (e.g., flights, trains) may be covered for insured events like delays or cancellations, provided you meet all other terms and conditions.
Important Information:
-
Maximum Trip Duration: The total duration of your entire journey must not exceed 45 consecutive days. If your trip is longer than 45 days, no part of it will be covered.
-
Round-Trip Requirement: To be considered a valid trip, your journey must be a round trip, starting and ending in the UK. Your travel must begin when you leave your home or place of business and ends upon your return to either location.
-
Pre-booked Travel: Both your initial outward and final inbound travel tickets must be purchased before your trip begins. One-way or open-ended tickets are not covered.
What reasons for delayed trip may be covered?
This cover applies to delays caused by:
- Strike or industrial action that hadn't already started or been announced before you booked your trip.
- Bad weather conditions.
- Mechanical breakdown or technical fault with your scheduled transport.
How much can I claim for delayed departure?
The most you can claim in total for delayed departure is £250 per trip, or £50 for each full 4-hour period of delay. In other words, if covered family members are part of the claim you submit, the most you can claim in total remains £250.
Is there an excess for delayed departure claims?
No, there is no excess applicable to this part of the policy.
Do I need to do anything before making a claim for a delayed departure?
To potentially qualify for compensation, you must have checked in (or attempted to check in) for your journey and received confirmation about the length, reason, and any compensation for the delay from your transport provider.
What evidence do I need to provide in case of delayed departure?
You'll need written confirmation from your transport provider (or their agents) that includes:
- The number of hours of delay.
- The reason for the delay.
- Details of any compensation already provided by the carrier.
What if my outward journey is delayed for more than 24 hours?
If your outward journey is delayed for more than 24 hours, you have the option to submit a claim under the cancellation part of your policy. Before doing this, you should first try to get a refund or alternative compensation from your travel provider.
Is the access to the lounge area covered in case of delays?
No, unfortunately this is not included in the cover of your Monzo travel insurance.
Does this cover apply to all types of transport?
This cover applies to scheduled public transport where you're booked as a fare-paying passenger. It doesn't cover privately chartered flights or other private transportation arrangements.
Keep in mind
If anything happens, please fill out the in-app or online claim form to submit a claim—even if you’re not sure whether it’s covered. That way, we can keep a clear record and take a closer look at your situation. Just remember to keep any relevant receipts or official documents, like a police report in case of theft, to help support your claim.
