This part of your insurance may provide coverage if you need to unexpectedly end early a trip you already started due to certain circumstances beyond your control.
Important information:
- This cover would not apply if the trip has to be cut short because of a cancellation by your travel provider.
- Contact Zurich Assist before curtailing your trip. They'll confirm whether your situation is covered and provide guidance on what to do next.
- Always fill in the in-app or online claim form as soon as possible.
How much can I claim if I need to cut my trip short?
The most you can claim in total for trip curtailment is £5,000 per trip for all beneficiaries. In other words, if covered family members are part of the claim you submit, the most you can claim in total remains £5,000.
Is there a part of the claim I have to pay myself?
Yes, there is an excess of £50 per trip.
How would my reimbursement be calculated?
Reimbursements are typically calculated from the exact date you return to your home in the UK. This means you would be reimbursed for the unused portion of your trip from the day you arrive back home until the day you were originally scheduled to return.
What types of expenses may be covered under curtailment cover?
You may be covered for the following costs:
- Unused, prepaid travel and accommodation expenses that you can't recover.
- Prepaid excursions, tours, or activities at your destination that you can't use.
- Reasonable additional travel expenses to get you home.
What evidence do I need to provide for a curtailment claim?
You'll need to provide:
- Original receipt or booking invoice for your new return flight.
- Original booking invoice for any unused pre-paid excursions showing the date and amount paid.
What reasons for curtailing my trip may be covered?
You may qualify for compensation if you need to cut your trip short due to:
- You, a close relative, or travel companion becoming unexpectedly ill, injured, suffering pregnancy complications, or dying
- Emergency services requesting you to return home due to serious damage to your home or business
- You or your travel companion having authorized leave cancelled for an unexpected emergency (applies if you're in the Armed Forces, Police, Fire, Nursing, Ambulance Services, or a Government employee)
What are possible reasons for curtailing my trip that are not covered?
Some key exclusions include:
- Cutting your trip short without getting pre-authorization from Zurich Assist.
- Transportation or accommodation not arranged by Zurich Assist or incurred without their approval.
- Pregnancy complications that first arose before your trip began.
- Any amount you've already claimed under the cancellation cover.
- Pre-existing medical conditions.
